Helen Noble

This month, we catch up with Helen Noble, Senior Associate, who has spent more than a decade supporting clients across a wide range of industries. From memorable site visits and mentoring new starters to sharing advice for those entering the profession, Helen gives us an insight into her role and life at Armstrong Environmental.

  1. How long have you worked at Armstrong Environmental?

I’ve been with Armstrong Environmental for a total of 11 years, excluding a two-year period working as an EHS Specialist/Industrial Hygienist in the pharmaceutical sector.

  1. Can you describe your role within the team?

I’m primarily involved in air and noise sampling projects for a wide range of clients. My role also includes carrying out site visits for prospective clients, preparing quotations, managing sampling equipment, and training new starters. Not forgetting the team’s unofficial (and unpaid!) agony aunt.

  1. What do you enjoy most about working for Armstrong Environmental?

We support clients across a diverse range of industries, which means no two days are ever the same. The variety keeps the work interesting and provides plenty of opportunities to learn something new.

  1. What’s the biggest challenge in your role?

The role can sometimes be lonely, particularly when travelling or working independently on site.

  1. What’s been your favourite place to visit through work?

Without a doubt, my favourite site visit was to a university anatomy laboratory, where students study with cadavers as part of their medical training. Definitely, one of the most memorable places I’ve visited.

  1. If you could have dinner with three people, past or present, who would they be?

Sir David Attenborough – he’s had one of the most incredible careers imaginable.

James Martin – because the food needs to be good.

Billy Connolly – for the laughs and entertaining conversation.

  1. What three words would your colleagues use to describe you?

Reliable

Helpful

Professional

  1. What advice would you give someone starting out in the industry?

Take every opportunity to speak with people on site. The operatives are often the real experts when it comes to day-to-day processes and can provide invaluable insights.
